The Wilburton Inn of Manchester, Vermont boasts a rich history and garners plenty of publicity. This page offers a sampling of the press appearances our historic bed & breakfast has been featured in.
The Wilburton Inn in Manchester Village, Vermont is a 45 room bed & breakfast on a 30-acre private hilltop estate with an onsite museum, organic farm and living room theatre. The property includes two historic mansions, six private vacation villas, an outdoor pool, tennis court, and sculpture garden that retraces the struggle between matriarchy and patriarchy in ancient civilizations.
The inn was built in 1902 as a private home for a Chicago railroad tycoon. In 1944 it became the Windsor School for children of Berlin’s artists who fled from the Nazis. In the 1970s, General Tire and R.K.O. Pictures bought the inn to use as an executive retreat and secluded getaway for their roster of movie stars.
The Levis Family has owned and operated the Wilburton Inn for 27 years. Dr. Albert Levis, a Yale trained psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor from Athens, Greece, is the founder of the Museum of the Creative Process and author of Science Stealing the Fire of the Gods. Georgette Levis was the beloved sister of playwright Wendy Wasserstein and the inspiration for Madeline Kahn’s Tony Award winning role, Gorgeous in The Sister’s Rosensweig.
The second generation of Levis family innkeepers include: Tajlei, who is currently writing the Broadway bound musical adaptation of Green Acres; Melissa, who is a Parents’ Choice award-winning children’s rock star who sang for 10,000 kids a year in New York City; Oliver, who is the founder of Earth Sky Time Community Farm in Manchester and bakes 2000 loaves of organic bread and 750 veggie burgers each week; and Max, who is a graduate of Harvard’s Divinity School and is currently getting his PhD in psychology and sociology in between planning and performing weddings at the Wilburton Inn.
There is an Easter Island Head at the Wilburton. It is part of the Museum of the Creative Process on the grounds of the estate.
The inn’s vibrant organic farm and bakery, Earth Sky Time Community Farm, recently introduced the “Bernie Sandwich Bread,” which is a pumpernickel loaf in honor of Vermont’s presidential hopeful!
A giant poster of Wendy Wasserstein’s The Sisters Rosensweig hangs in the inn’s living room because innkeeper Georgette was the inspiration for Madeline Kahn’s Tony Award winning character, Gorgeous.
Hey, Maria Von Trapp! There’s a new singing Vermont innkeeper. Melissa was an award-winning songwriter in NYC for 20 years before joining the inn.
The Wilburton is not just pet friendly, it’s pet celebrating. Four-legged innkeeper Jetson loves welcoming all breeds to the inn for doggie slumber parties.
